Brendan Fraser is going to be in a movie again. A24, the company that made the movie, talked about Fraser’s amazing transformation to play a 600-pound man this week.
Together, Sadie Sink from Stranger Things and Fraser play a writing teacher who lives alone and wants to get in touch with his teenage daughter.
The Whale, which also stars Ty Simpkins, Samantha Morton, and Hong Chau, will have its world premiere at the 2022 Venice Film Festival later this year.
In a 2017 interview with Unilad, Fraser gave a hint about what to expect from the movie by calling it “something you haven’t seen before.”
Fraser said to the newspaper, “That’s about all I can say.”
The wardrobe and costumes were big, complicated, and heavy.
“This is very different from anything I’ve ever done,” he said, “but I’m not trying to be sneaky. I know it’s going to leave an impression. “
Even though he was in No Sudden Move last year and has been in TV shows like Doom Patrol, The Affair, and Trust recently, Fraser’s role in the Aronofsky-directed drama will be his first main role since Breakout in 2013. He also has a part in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, which also stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, and he is set to play the bad guy in the next Batgirl movie.
Fraser’s return to the big screen after a long time away has been very touching. At a virtual meet-and-greet with a fan on TikTok last year, the 53-year-old actor was surprised by how much support there was for his comeback.
In the video shot in Oklahoma, where he was supposed to film the movie directed by Scorsese, Fraser said, “I think I might be sick.” A little scared. I mean, it’ll be fun…”
The fan then stopped Fraser and said, “You’ve got this. Just know that the Internet hates you so much! “
“We are so helpful,” she said. “There are so many people who love you and are rooting for you.” We can’t wait to see what you do next. “
Fraser tipped his hat and said, “Shucks, ma’am,” as he started to choke up.
When he talked about it, Fraser was honest about why he left Hollywood in 2018. In a piece for GQ, the actor said that the former head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Philip Berk had touched him at a luncheon in 2003.
Fraser said that the alleged incident happened right before he and Berk were going to shake hands and part ways at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles. Berk has said that the claim is not true. Fraser said that Berk’s left hand reached around and grabbed his cheek, and one of his fingers touched him in the taint. And he starts to move it. “
He revealed, “I felt ill. I felt like a little kid. I had the feeling of having a ball in my throat. I was afraid I would cry. “
Fraser said he didn’t make the accusations public because he was afraid of being “humiliated” and because his story would become his “narrative.” He also said that he didn’t get invited to the Golden Globes much after 2003, which Berk didn’t believe.
“It made me back down.” I felt like a hermit, “Fraser said. I don’t know if this made the group, the HFPA, dislike me. But the silence was so loud it hurt. “
“I was unhappy because I blamed myself,” he said. “Because I was saying, ‘This is nothing; this guy reached around and got a feel.'” The summer went on, and I don’t remember what I worked on after that.
